Jeremiah’s Pick Coffee Co. of San Francisco announced that effective 2008, its business operations would be carbon neutral. Carbon neutral businesses purchase carbon offsets, helping to create clean energy and to offset the tons of carbon dioxide that are created by burning fossil fuels. Examples of clean energy include wind farms and farm power created by methane digesters.
Jules Kragen, CEO of Jeremiah’s Pick commented, “Global warming is an issue that is not going to go away unless every person and every business starts to meet it head on. Each business has a choice, to hide its head in the sand and hope or to take steps to begin dealing with this complex and ultimately catastrophic issue. We are proud to be working with TerraPass to make our contribution and encourage every small and medium sized business to do the same. We will be taking steps to reduce our energy use and shrink our carbon footprint over the coming years in conjunction with the use of offsets.
